"A lipstick box can hold a pair of shoes" when to stop excessive packaging

2023-06-01 16:27300

News:"I ordered a lipstick online, and when it arrived, I found that the volume of the product was less than one-fifth of the volume of the packaging, and the packaging box was big enough to hold a pair of shoes." Zhang Ran, a citizen, was a little surprised: " Did you send the wrong product?" (Changsha Evening News, May 25)

The number of gift boxes is several times that of the commodities, and the packaging materials are more varied than the commodities inside. Ordering a takeaway takes out several packing boxes; there are also commodities such as zongzi, tea, cosmetics, etc., after being packed layer by layer, the garbage that is removed is "two I can't even lift it with one hand"...

The so-called excessive packaging, the national standard specified by the State Administration for Market Regulation is that the product exceeds the normal packaging function requirements, and the packaging exceeds the necessary level in the three aspects of "packaging void ratio, packaging layers, and packaging cost", that is: too many consumables Heavy, bulky, and costly.

With the rapid development of e-commerce and online shopping, express delivery has become an important channel for buying and selling goods. When express goods reach consumers, they must go through transportation, handling and other links. In order to ensure product safety and reduce product damage, some merchants often simply choose to increase outer packaging, which gradually evolves into excessive packaging. Although the simple style is favored by more and more consumers, the phenomenon of excessive packaging still exists in many areas of life, which inevitably leads to an increase in garbage and a certain degree of waste of resources.

Excessive packaging and extra charges in the name of packaging are more common on food delivery platforms. Some merchants will charge unequal packaging fees "fairly" by adding some packaging boxes. Some takeaway restaurants list packaging materials separately as a mandatory option. If the consumer does not select this item, the order cannot be placed. There are also some light food restaurants that carefully design take-out boxes and paper bags, charging a fee ranging from 5 yuan to 6 yuan; there are also cases where packaging fees are charged, but the packaging is exactly the same as the free packaging in offline stores. There are many restaurants where the packaging fee is floating, and some are based on the number of dishes. The number of dishes ordered is the number of times the basic packaging fee. However, the calculation methods of these takeaway packaging fees are not uniform, which makes consumers confused.

As the products and channels of e-commerce companies tend to be homogeneous, in order to improve their competitiveness, in addition to developing new products, most major brands will put a lot of effort into packaging design. The cost of these packages will be reflected in the commodity price to a certain extent. In fact, what consumers buy is the value brought by the product itself, and the increased production and logistics costs caused by excessive packaging are ultimately paid by consumers.

A lipstick box is enough to hold a pair of shoes! This kind of packaging is really not the most "excessive", only more "excessive", which needs to be curbed urgently. Packaging should not be "bloated" but "slim", which is the requirement of the state, the need of saving resources and environmental protection, and the expectation of consumers. Recently, the "Research on Excessive Packaging of Commodities and Consumer Perception Survey Report" released by the China Consumers Association shows that 80.7% of consumers oppose excessive packaging; 51.4% of consumers think that there are many problems with excessive packaging of commodities. Some data show that, my country's packaging waste accounts for about 30% to 40% of urban domestic waste. Most of these wastes are generated by excessive packaging. Excessive packaging not only forces consumers to pay unnecessary packaging costs, but also harms consumers. The right of choice and the right to fair trade have also brought obvious harm to the environment.

There is no market without buying and selling. On the surface, commodity packaging is a trivial matter in people's daily life, but it is actually a major event related to green development. Not only does it require self-discipline of enterprises and the strengthening of supervision by regulatory authorities, it also requires the understanding and support of consumers. On the one hand, merchants should innovate packaging methods, follow a simple and natural style, reduce packaging costs, and save consumers from the trouble of buying boxes and returning pearls; Win the favor of consumers.

Curbing excessive packaging is not just a matter for consumers, nor is it only the responsibility of regulatory authorities. It requires the concerted efforts of all parties concerned, starting from me, strengthening the concept of the rule of law, establishing the awareness of strict conservation, green environmental protection, and promoting the Chinese culture of "light courtesy and affection". The fine tradition of the nation is to actively and resolutely say "no" to over-packaged products, and gradually develop a habit. In this way, the phenomenon of over-packaging may be greatly changed.
